Social Agendas: You can have it all

The following is just my opinion, so feel free to disagree with me. No scientific data this time.

I think one of the most dangerous messages society writes in our heads is this one: You can have it all.

As they say in the program of the same name: Bullshit!!! The fact is you can´t. Single successful persons understand this really well. We as humans have limited time on this earth, and in order to be great in any area you have to dedicate most of that time to it.

So you can not be the greatest wife or husband, and the greatest mom or dad and be truly great in your field of expertise at the same time. You have to choose one and dedicate to it.

The problem is when a person decides not to form a conventional family to be great at something else, the social agenda machinery starts to work. The pressure of all those frustrated persons living unhappy marriages, spoiled children and sucky jobs starts to push that person, saying there can not be happiness in loneliness, there can not be joy without children, nothing good can come without marriage, a woman who have no children is not complete until she does, a man who decides not to "plant" his seed is worthless; and a lot of other non senses.

The danger in those preconceptions can be clearly seen in the people around you. Just stop and try to remember how many times you have heard this from other persons (or worst, you had said it yourself): I wanted to be ________(fill the blank with any carrier or dream) but then I got marry, so I could not afford my studies. I got a job and then came the children, etc, etc, etc...the rest is history. The result: a frustrated person with his/her dreams crushed just because he/she lacked the maturity to understand you can not have it all.

You can be a moderately successful person, an average wife/husband and a competent parent, but I assure you won´t be great in neither of them. So if you choose that path good for you, but you have to understand the persons who want to be great in something by staying single, without children and dedicating most of their time to their goal.

Many examples of persons who seem to have it all will pop up in your head, but I am convinced that if you look beneath the surface of those persons and their relationships, you will discover they have failed big time in them.

So what do you think? Do you want to be great in something or you can live by being an average person? Can we have it all?

I think this is a real thing and you are in right. My own think (sorry for my english) is that is better to be an average person in every "field" of the life, than be the best in just one field (thing that is impossible)

of course we cant mate..i think whatever decisions people make concerning their lives they should seriously consider all events that could or couldnt happen..we all know children are expensive to bring up so yes i agree there that poeple shouldnt complain about them and how much they are costing them too feed and clothe etc...

Be well & happy

Hi there monti! Nice pics and nice point of view. I agree with you 100%. Why? I am a boy that considers life is whatever you choose, but sometimes, you can't simply choose your way, others do that for you! So, you cannot be succesfully in many areas, perhaps you will not be able to be in none, but more important is what you desire! You just live it, the life, you don't ask yourself too many qoestions! U see, today you have this point of view, yesterday, maybe you thought otherwise and in the closely future you will have another perception. I'm not believing in the 'good all family', u see, my family was not really a family so I decided that I will never maried! I do not want to crush my children's dreams somehow! i live my life mostly alone, but I do not need a family! I believe otherwise that people can be good whatever they choose in their life ! Have a special week form Housy!

I am agree...It's about our paradigm, we have to motivate ourself because we can not always count on someone to help us or be there for us or whatever..We can have it, i believe...it's all depend on us..

Although I agree with he idea, I do not agree with the ending.

Yes a human CAN't have it all, but it is their decision(good, bad they made it) regarding what they want to be/will become. If some1 chooses a solitary life and a successful career it's his choice, if some1 can dedicate himself to family in detriment to job it's his/her choice also.

Although there is an exception in this rule, working together with he family towards the common goal of a career.

But no, we DEFINETLY CAN'T HAVE IT ALL !!

Keep it true.......Keep it metal

I agree, we can not be great in everything. do not I understand only, why to be great in everything?! I don't want everywhere to score a success, happiness is enough to me only in a few spheres of life, I don't need all.
